The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
Product Name DescriptionHer was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know as HeLa. It was one of the poorest tobacco farmers in the South who worked the land as their slave ancestors, but their cells were taken without his knowledge to one of the most important tools in medicine. The first “immortalized” human cells are grown in culture, they are still alive today, even if they are dead for over sixty years. If you’re all already HeLa cells can grow on a scale, stacked, they would weigh more than 50. . . More>>

The sample was deeply engaging but I do not want to buy an e-Book paralyzed. If the text has been word-not locked, I would have bought. Rating: 3 / 5

The premise of this book was so interesting, because about 1 / 3 of the book. I found it boring and I felt that the book would have written half the words. It was pretty boring for me. Rating: 3 / 5

This is a fascinating history that includes American history (warts and all … Even our racism) in addition to a biographical narrative of a young black woman with cancer of the cervix advanced the benefits without the scientific knowledge, the medical community. These advanced degrees in health sciences almost certainly the “Hela” cell belongs, and this book tells the story of the woman who was unwittingly donor of this cell line. Women skloot includes a science-fiction twist as the story is that the thing is even more interesting. Although you may think that what happened was Henrietta Lacks with “time”, the most modern medical facilities, free enough to use your body fluids for research if they wish, and that History is more than just historical interest. Thus, medical ethics are challenged (or should I say ethics Medical Corporation, or is it an oxymoron). If I had to get rid of a review of this book is that there is actually little more than Henrietta. I’m sure it was just a lack of availability, as Ms. skloot obviously an investigative reporter very thorough. However, filling with stories about their children fell a little short for me (as a biography of one of the children of Bill Gates does not interest me). Although Ms. skloot seems that the family should benefit from HeLa cells, and several times, as mentioned, it is ironic that children Henrietta Lacks “have no health insurance. In addition to being illogical, I think it’s not quite that simple (plus, I am a firm believer “Bless The Child Who’s Got his own argument.” Might be too much with this kind of logic is that woman is skloot also benefit financially from HeLa). Because of scientific advances in the use of HeLa cells, which has benefited all mankind (which makes this story so compelling to begin with). Helada is financially one of the most original works of investigative journalism I’ve read in a number of years and I am happy for lighting Schriftsteller.Bewertung future of this young talent: 5 / 5

Basically, the story of the family and the painting of the cell line was produced by a woman, Henrietta Lacks. It is also the story of a very vague idea of what the research conducted for purpose of these cells, their daughter Deborah Lacks,. She claims to be this, and many have willingly, even joyfully, ingestion of these requests, but I think they have no support. For example, apparently to discuss the history of medicine, but it is not. Instead, she goes to events that are in an institution (Johns Hopkins Hospital) in a period of time, then they try and distorted form broad generalizations about scientists and physicians, and their actions and Moral.Zum example, early in the book, where Henrietta is diagnosed at Johns Hopkins, Rebbecca skloot seems to have mentioned the fact that Henrietta Lacks was in the black station. At least, she seized every opportunity to implement in the history of working together with the fact that they were African-Americans and their doctors know. These facts are, quite honestly, all related to history. If you read this book, persons with whom such reliable Rebbecca skloot said he received the standard treatment for their time, regardless of their race. Despite this fact, Ms. skloot out of his way to mention that, very often patient care for African countries is different from that of white Americans. In every sense, Rebbecca skloot seems to find anything that would cause outrage readers. In the end, it is unclear if (the result of Rebbecca skloot framing his book in this way, the approval and trust of the family to earn what may or may not have been necessary to get their permission to print) or if it was a malicious act on the sales end verbessern.Am I found the book on many Ebenen.Erstens disgusting denigration of scientists and doctors who are the standard care health, to question its intentions and actions without even though most of them (or their families) to speak on their behalf, with their constant shaping treatment of Henrietta as a matter of race combined, this which is obviously not, if she seems distracted, guaranteed to doctors to discard the bad, while the family of Henrietta, impose their own medical conditions, as a victim of physicians, and society, “Well, everyone but sich.Zweitens (repeat stories of Johns Hopkins doctors “steal” patients from the road that will inevitably described as African-Americans compared with white doctors), without bothering to look at something d ‘as simple as the number of people were missing in the vicinity of Johns Hopkins, as the city without thorough research and a medical clinic, clearly shows their bias and intent. But I think it would be his only opportunity to say that most people have not been missing because the police that they were poor African-Americans and whites did not nehmen.Drittens missing persons is bashing scientists, angry beyond measure. Many, many times would the course of the book, Rebbecca skloot it ridiculous headlines Fron the past where a member of the press is dramatically wrong, the results of research and some would be foolish to take greater anxiety would be dirty to breathe science in layman. Admittedly, this is the fault of the scientists involved, as it really better to secure a job that the press need to understand history. (This does not prevent the press and journalists from evil, they still represented, but may stop some accidents, at least.) And that’s really where this book leaves us, as we have by the claims exaggerated in this book are seated. But in the end, I think the difference between journalists and scientists. Scientists prove things, journalists SELL Dinge.Viertens as a good example of this framing problem, Rebbecca skloot spends three or more sides to speak of inhuman behavior scientists have shown that shame, including support for eugenics. While there are scientists who were in favor of eugenics, there were others, including Thomas Hunt Morgan, who spoke vehemently against the practice. In addition, it is clearly misleading to describe eugenics as exclusively scientific effort. Instead, they include such luminaries as Sir Francis Galton (an anthropologist and statistician), HG Wells, President Woodrow Wilson and Theodore Roosevelt, future British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, Emile Zola (writer), the economist John Keynes, Irving Fisher and Sidney Webb, and especially journalists, George Bernard Shaw and Lothrop Stoddard (and perhaps much more, but journalists do not tend to the story of how men) do things. All this makes the practice, which is supported by scientists many years, is no longer excusable. If anything, their participation is what it gave credibility to such a terrible and they take more RESPONSIBILITY anyone. However, not to mention any of these figures, nor the immense popularity of the movement worldwide. A little context would be nice I mentioned gewesen.Wie said that the irresponsible and imprecise wording of the cultural environment in March of history books and make it impossible to understand what really happened and why. Ultimately the reader with a righteous indignation on the left and I learned much new. At least some relevant sind.Bewertung: 2 / 5
