This brilliant novel revolves around what is broken – relationships, family ties, trust – and the reconstruction process. It begins with the birth of twins in a nursing nun, Sister Mary Joseph has been praised in a small hospital on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, an event that nobody foresaw: “The daily miracle of the design took up a place he should not be: in the uterus of praise Sister Mary Joseph. “The offer is becoming a debacle when it is clear that Mary Joseph praise can not deliver her baby, usually the last minutes of arriving at home,” Missing “(Mission Hospital) from of Obstetricians Indian stores Hema children, but her mother dies and the father of his supposed father, surgeon, Thomas Stone, disappears into the night.

This brief summary does no justice effective and remarkable prose style Verghese, or the structure of part of the book, even if it revolves around the tragedy that the life of the mother’s claim on the twins, leads the other main characters who take the place of their birth parents . Launching the shuttle between events in the operating room (as Thomas Stone, horrified by what he sees, first tried to praise the life of Mary, Joseph collapsing the skull of the child he believes, can not be born alive) to safeguard secularism daily activities of his fellow physicians, Ghosh (in flight, which he thinks is a hopeless love for Hema) and Hema get the fight at home, is absent from his vacation in India, the reader is unable to put the book and wants to find only one way to read faster and faster and faster to see what happens next. When the twins were born in a blood vessel attached to the head and separated at the last moment by Stone and Hema to save his life, the reader will find himself or herself or himself resent every moment not spent the following story on the history is told. And even when you have finished the novel and its more-than-engaging characters, will remain in your mind…

Separated at birth, the twins grow Ethiopia, the reign of Emperor Haile Selaisse, Verghese, and leads the reader into an ancient world that is new to most readers, with all its flavors, colors, smells and sounds.’s remarkable art will ensure that this never Jarring, but always exciting and the characters – Indian expatriate doctors raise their two adopted children, born of a nun and an Indian American surgeon, using a concierge Eritrean and his own daughter – that feel like we know as if they were members of his own family. In the manner of a classic epic, Verghese takes its themes – isolation, the intersection of sex and death, injury and operation and may not not be able to answer – and puts the whole. And yet these issues – which in turn fight for every writer – not obscure the fact that it is at its core, the story of two brothers, Marion and Shiva – or ShivaMarion Marion, the narrator, his single-minded unity in their recent years.

Finally, send the political events in Ethiopia, and betrayal Marion family flee to the States USA. His odyssey appears to break this relationship, and yet, when the novel ends, we recognize that each step was, in fact, make Marion, Shiva and his extended family and closer to a solution of the various towers of ‘plot. training as a surgeon in a hospital, where the Bronx was not running only trainees ( “In the great tradition of Mayflower abroad for this code,” reflects Marion sec), has finally met his biological father person – with disastrous consequences – and a chance for peace with Thomas Stone, Shiva – and go.

Who knows not writing fiction Veghese (two very compelling memoirs, My Own Country: A Doctor’s Story and The tennis partner) knows he has an impeccable prose. But relatively few fiction writers can also write wonderful fiction, let alone produce such a complex drama. Is even rarer that he is the first feature film. Even the strange coincidences in the last third of the book never felt anything less than pitch-perfect: a tribute to exercise care by Verghese and his eloquence, pitch-perfect writing.

For me, it is rare for a book of this size, one that the type of character I’ve ever seen the creation of tripping, the characters are now so vivid in my mind as one of the real people who populate my world. Is the first of many novels, Verghese product for us, his readers the chance.

In this great novel, that question is answered in the affirmative again and again. If your brother is your identical twin, an orphan, a disgruntled neighbor or a stranger, everyone deserves to be treated.

Started in India, the story goes to Africa, where they until the protagonist travels to America remains. Marion, the narrator of this fictional autobiography, part of a series of monozygotic twins. His birth and life in the mission, Missing, form the basis for the conflicts and triumphs are contained in the novel. The historical context, the internal conflict in Ethiopia and shots to give the atmosphere more realistic depth of book. Given the title of “stone cutting” of the Hippocratic oath, but also reflect mai a double meaning. The biological father of Marion and his twin brother, Shiva, Thomas Stone, a famous surgeon. In what may be a subconscious effort to emulate and impress their absent parent, both are skilled surgeons. They are “cutting for stone.

This is one of the most important books I had the privilege of reading. Verghese is an experienced author and leads the reader into the book immediately. The characters are strong, very interesting and human conflict are realistic and continue to advance the pace of the novel. Even the minor characters are so well developed, so that readers want to know more about their lives. There is light humor, emotional and a great personal victory throughout the book.

read in the luxury of time, cutting stone, “without interruption. If you do not, you should think about the characters and wondering what is happening anyway. In my opinion, that the brand is a big book – the author has taken your attention and requires quietly made you give up nothing. If a book as beautiful as the “Cup of the stone is” part, you’ll be more than happy to comply. You can, if necessary, to read this book in several sessions without interest or forget what happened earlier.

If I liked this book more than five stars, because I want to evaluate. It is truly a masterpiece.

Many readers will say that cutting the stone is an epic tale of Siamese twins by a British surgeon and a brilliant Indian well designed. And it is technical. Marion said the first twin is born, we are of any influence on him and his brother told existence. More than history, however, said that the novel is an accurate portrayal of life in all its horrors and wonders.

The mother dies in childbirth and his father left later, its minutes. They are raised at a medical missionary in Ethiopia. As they grow, are forced to face their past and future, again, down the importance of fate, love and family.

In reading the finer points, you will notice a great effort that the history of research and is packed with medical jargon and situations, as well as vivid descriptions of the Ethiopian culture and history. My only reservation in recommending the book is at times difficult novels, “like almost every imaginable tragedy, prejudice these brothers and medical interventions and ornaments are very detailed. Squeamish may want to skim some of these passages.

Ultimately, this novel tells an elegant, well structured and the most original piece of fiction I’ve read in years. It is worth every positive adjective I can throw around, wonderful and exciting. You want to own and get lost in this book again and again. Buy it now and thank me later.

The plot of the book may well be: cut stone follows the lives of two boys from birth to adulthood. Boys, Marion and Shiva are identical twins at birth, who became a surrogate mother and raised by family and grow on the grounds of the hospital missing orphans in Ethiopia. Although they continue to individualize their teenage lives are intimately linked and evolve in parallel. Finally, the two men and the practice of medicine in America and one in Ethiopia. However, this book even more than action.

cutting of the stone is a beautiful written coming-of-age novel by weaving family, hospital and household staff, patients, community, health and land assembled into a complex mosaic. It includes love, lust, trust, betrayal, commitment, exile, faith, poverty, life, death, hope, dreams, fears, and almost all Other major problems that you can not imagine never predictable, manipulative or cliche. It is an epic story that feels comfortable and familiar and enveloping. The characters are like my family and I feel at home when I visited Missing hospital matron and staff.

I usually read quickly, finishing a book in one or two days. Cutting stone has lasted over a week. The story is convincing, but gradually I appreciate the words and images of Addis Ababa with the eyes of Marion. I have not finished the journey.

I recommend this book to all my friends play for a long period and can not wait for Dr. Verghese to scroll through my city when his book tour going. Get a copy and read – you will not be disappointed.

You know how some novels have only you? Enter the hair, head, heart, teeth, gonads? Well, it’s epic family saga, one of them. It takes a little time – you need to have a little patience, because it represents the number of leading and supporting roles, was the place, and the son of history. Around page 80, is ballast clear. They are attached. Momentum is growing and you will be completely absorbed.

The narrator says Pierre Marion, a doctor of 50 years, his early life and his twin brother, Shiva, and the lives of people she loved, raised, sunk in embarrassment. They were born joined at the head (successfully separated), children) of a Carmelite nun (and a nurse, Sister Mary Joseph exalted, and a surgeon father of exceptional talent, Thomas Stone, who had worked together for seven years.) (The place is Adaba Abba, Ethiopia, the mission hospital fictitious as follows: “Missing” by many Ethiopians, who plays a big part of history.

These characters are those you live and live the Drop Dead Gorgeous and moving. They shimmer. They resound. You’ll see as you go through the day – the deep color of the iris, wrinkles and folds skin, structure of the hair, the resonance of their voices. And you’ll feel the spirit and nature as they surround you.

Missing (mission) is a powerful symbol history – the gaps of memory, narrative of events. Everything will eventually work amazing. In addition, the title of the novel gathers no moss, but keep the nature and context of deepening history and various parts of the past as a whole. Over time you reach the end of the novel, these three words for the portal on the passage of the resolution and the thrust of the topic.
< ; br /> Playfully itself, funny, adventurous, embarrassing, shocking, tragic and tender cut of the stone is unbearably beautiful soul. Edifying, flexible, exuberant, and persistent.
